Module 2

Welcome To My Game 420 Portfolio!

Module 2- Games of Love and Sexuality

This week, I played the game Cibele.  This game is not much of a game, but more of a cleverly skinned version of a visual novel.  The game is an autobiographical experience of the author, Nina and the boy she fell in love with.  The game uses the look and feel of the girl's desktop of her computer, with pictures, blog posts, and emails to provide the story.  It also created a mock online game to simulate the experience Nina had with casually clicking enemies in an online game while chatting.  The boy did not love her, and she quickly found out that sex and love are two different things.  This game takes a more mature approach to sex, simply telling the story as it is.  It does not use sex jokes and does not take an overly exploitative approach to sex.

This game shows love (at least for Nina) more than sex.

In contrast, the other option of the weekly game to play was HunieCam Studio.  This game is a management clicker game where you manage a bunch of cam girls.  This is a much more immature approach to sex by portraying women as sex objects for the sole intent of making money.  The game is full of sex jokes, drugs, alcohol, and tobacco as part of the games mechanics.  For instance, you give your girls Cocaine to make them work harder (offers a double speed bonus).  The goal is to get as many fans as possible to make the most money at the end of a 21 day cycle.

This game takes one of the most exploitative approaches to sex by having you manage webcam strippers, making this game more about sex than love.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas takes a mixture of both sex and love and allows the player to decide which path to take.  (I will be talking about the vanilla game, the Hot Coffee mod will not be mentioned.)  If sex is your end goal in the game, you can just pick up and pay a hooker.  If you choose the path of love however, the game will reward the player with bonuses such as your girlfriend's car or the ability to keep your weapons when you die.  Love takes a lot longer, but is much more rewarding (and cheaper) in this game.
